厳島神社とは？

日本三景の一つである広島県廿日市(はつかいち)市の厳島にある神社。推古天皇の御代に、＊宗像三女神を祭って建てられた神社です。
『厳島』とは、神を斎(いつ)きまつる島という意味で島全体が神の島として崇められていたことから、「陸地では畏れ多い！」と潮の満ち引きするところに社（やしろ）が建てられました。
平安時代末期には平家が神社の力にすがったことから、氏神的存在となり、以後武家からの崇拝が強く、多くの武士に守られてきました。毎年7月に行なわれる管弦祭は有名。1996年に世界文化遺産に登録されました。

鏡の池

厳島神社には鏡の池がある！？

厳島神社には、意外と知られていない秘密の場所があります。それは、「鏡の池」と呼ばれる池です。これは、干潮の時にしか見ることができません。 干潮の時以外は瀬戸内海の海ですが、潮が引くと「鏡の池」だけ水が湧き出ているのです！

 この池は長い歴史の間、まったく形を変えず、さらには干上がることもなく、絶えず清水がわき続けています。

 

「鏡の池」実は、超パワースポット！？

この池の水は、昔、干潮時に火災が発生した際に、消化をするための水として活躍したことがあるという伝説が残っています。多くの災害を生き抜いてきた厳島神社の“縁の下の力持ち”となったと言っても過言ではないでしょう。

鏡の池は、干潮時しか見ることができないため、ぜひ厳島神社に何度も足を運んででも見てみてください！

厳島神社の鳥居に隠された秘密

厳島神社の鳥居は、木造の国内最大級の大鳥居であり、重さは、約60ｔもあります。ですが、この鳥居の柱は砂に埋まっていないんです！なので、満潮時や海が荒れている時は、この大鳥居が浮くこともあるそうです。

では、なぜ倒れないのでしょう？その理由は屋根の構造にあります。屋根の下には空洞があり、そこに石を詰めることで鳥居自体の重さを増やし、厳しい自然環境の中でも倒れない構造になっています

 

 

 

厳島神社のお土産

しゃもじ

日本一の「しゃもじ」生産地である宮島は、厳島神社のお土産としても「しゃもじ」があります。明治時代に入り、日清・日露戦争が勃発した際に、「飯取る＝敵を召し取る」という語呂から、「幸運、福運、勝運」を招く縁起のいいものとされています。

お守り

厳島神社の交通安全のお守りは、他の神社にはない珍しいご利益が付加されています。

厳島神社は海に建てられている神社であり、1000年もの長い間瀬戸内海を見守りつ続けてきました。そして瀬戸内海の海を守ってきたのは、厳島神社の御祭神である「宗像三女神」です。なので、通常の交通安全のご利益の他に「水災に関する災いを祓い、水難からも護られる」といったご利益も授かることができます。

宮島島内は道が狭く、駐車場はほとんどありません。お車は宮島口桟橋周辺の駐車場にお止めになり、フェリーにご乗船ください。

宮島口周辺パーク・アンド・ライド駐車場

観光シーズンには混雑することが予想されるため、宮島観光にお越しになる際は、既設の駐車場に加え、臨時駐車場などと公共交通機関を利用した、パーク・アンド・ライドの活用をお勧めします。
